This means that savvy marketing departments now use detailed insights on consumer behavior to identify prospects and increase conversion. Your team may be creating the coolest ad campaigns, the most creative content, and the best design — but we all know that none of this matters unless you can check that they’re working.

Managers look at the bottom line. It may seem that the effectiveness of your marketing strategy is difficult to evaluate, but it’s now easier than ever to measure results, thanks to the abundance of available data.

KPIs – or key performance indicators – measure whether a business or organization is achieving its objectives. They should be highly-focused and limited to the most important metrics. Rather than trying to measure 50 different things, it’s better to focus on 10 or fewer.

Each marketing KPI should be SMART. This means:

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Relevant

Time-bound

Marketing KPIs

Following these criteria, 10 KPIs for Email Marketing might include:

The number of emails opened (#)

The email open rate (%)

The number of clicks (#)

The click rate (%)

The number of conversions ( #)

The conversion rate (#)

The number of forwards/shares (#)

The unsubscribe rate (%)

The KPIs for other areas of your marketing strategy should be equally precise and measurable.

Once you’ve decided on which metrics you want to analyze, you can start tracking your KPIs. But what do you do with all this information and where do you store it?

Marketing analysis tools like Google Analytics are extremely powerful but a busy marketing team with a multi-channel strategy can quickly generate a vast amount of data. The challenge is bringing all of your marketing data together in one place for analysis. You might be surprised to learn that you can do this and create automated marketing KPI reports, in Google Sheets.
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”||-20px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
Track your SEO metrics in an automated dashboard:
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://static.sheetgo.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/marketing-KPIs-SEO-dashboard-1.png” alt=”marketing-kpis-SEO-dashboard” title_text=”marketing-KPIs-SEO-dashboard (1)” _builder_version=”4.23.1″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
Why use Google Sheets to track marketing KPIs?

Flexible: Google Sheets enables you to manage and analyze all of your marketing channel data in the way that suits your team. Whenever you want to change the system you can simply adapt the spreadsheets — without expensive marketing software or coding.

Accessible: Cloud-based and real-time, Google Sheets allows your team to access and transfer their data at any time, from anywhere in the world.

Compatible with everything: All other software integrates with Google Sheets, so if your company has marketing data stored in other programs, you can easily import that information straight into Google Sheets.

Easy to use: It’s likely that most of your colleagues already use spreadsheets and Google Sheets is user-friendly for those who don’t. Spreadsheets are easy to maintain and training your team is quick and simple.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
What’s a spreadsheet-based workflow template?

Whereas a regular spreadsheet template is a single file containing pre-built charts and formulas, a Sheetgo workflow template is an interconnected system. It consists of multiple Google Sheets files that transfer data between them.

This allows team members to work in their own private spreadsheet while sharing data with colleagues automatically. Marketing managers can keep an eye on all the KPIs in the dashboard, without having to gather and collate any data manually.

A spreadsheet-based workflow template gives you:

Organization and data privacy: Each spreadsheet is dedicated to one sole task, for better data governance and accuracy. Instead of storing and managing your team’s marketing data in large, shared spreadsheets, there’s a file for each channel. Data is exported from these files and merged in the manager’s master sheet automatically, reducing the risk of errors.

Scalability: As your marketing department grows, you can expand the system by connecting more spreadsheets to the workflow. Plus you can make ad-hoc alterations without redesigning the system or switching to a new solution.

Integration: Google Sheets is compatible with everything so you can easily import and combine data from other software and marketing tools such as Google Analytics. In a couple of clicks, you can also connect data from other parts of the company, such as accounting, to create a fully integrated system.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”||-20px||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
Keep track of all your marketing KPIs in the automated dashboard
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://static.sheetgo.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/marketing-KPIs-dashboard.png” alt=”marketing-kpis-dashboard” title_text=”marketing-KPIs-dashboard” _builder_version=”4.23.1″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
What you get with this template:

When you install the Sheetgo Marketing KPIs template, five Google Sheets files with pre-built Sheetgo connections are saved to your Google Drive:

Four Marketing channel spreadsheets. KPIs are used to report to investors and to guide the strategic direction of the organization. At Sheetgo we have a list of over 300 (and growing) metrics that we track weekly and monthly. By regularly reviewing these KPIs we are able to stay on top of where we've been and where we are as well as have the insights to make quick, fact-based decisions for our company. Here at Sheetgo, we develop spreadsheet systems that we use to grow and improve our own company. Then, we deliver our systems free to our users so they can get the most out of our add-on.

We've created a KPI Tracking Template that you can use to have an easy, reliable, and centralized location to track your KPIs.

Overview of the KPI Tracking Template

This template includes 3 Google Sheets: 1. KPI Tracking Template which will centralize all your data. The second is a sample of a sales funnels with data structured in the format needed it for the KPI template to process it. Finally, the third is a KPI Dashboard that you can use to report KPIs to your stakeholders.

Step 1. Prepare Data

Choose Metrics

It doesn't matter if its a new startup or an established business, any size company can have hundreds of metrics. Metric categories can generally be broken down to marketing, usage, sales, and finances. You should choose the metrics that you can use to best measure the progress and success of your business. You should report on metrics that clearly represent your progress to your investors. If you are looking for a template to track KPIs, you probably already have an idea of what you want to track, but if this concept is totally new to you, check out this awesome cheatsheet with some great examples.

Structure Your Data

You should configure your data to include dates on the vertical axis (column A) and categories on the horizontal axis (row 1). The sample sales funnel in the picture below provides an example of what this looks like. This format is ideal for Google Sheets based databases because Google Sheets has nearly unlimited rows, but not columns. Further if you want to apply a pivot table to your data you need the categories in line 1

Step 2. Install Sheetgo

Sheetgo is You will use the Sheetgo add-on to import your source files into one place.

1.Install it by following the steps in our web app

2. Install it directly from a Google Sheets spreadsheet by clicking the add-ons button in the navigation menu, then click the Get add-ons button. A window will pop up for you to browse. Copy the Template

In order to use our template, you will need to make your own copy of it. The template consists of two spreadsheets. The KPI Tracking Template, which has four tabs: Instructions, Monthly KPI summary, inputs, and the sample sales funnel shown above. The second spreadsheet is the KPI Dashboard, which will connect to the KPI Tracking Template to visually display your data.

Click on the images below. We recommend weekly if you manage with weekly sprints.

Change the connection name to something descriptive (e.g., Sales Funnel)

Once done it should look something like this:

Once you click connect it will create a new tab in your KPI Tracking Template spreadsheet with the name that you specified (e.g., Sales Funnel)

Now you will connect your KPI Tracking template to your KPI Dashboard following the steps below:

Open sheetgo by clicking 'Add-ons -> Sheetgo -> Start'

Click on the '+' icon to create a new connection then the up arrow for export connections

Click on connection type 'Connect'

Search in your google drive for the KPI Dashboard that you copied earlier

Search for the tab 'Monthly KPI Summary'

Select the import frequency. We recommend that you execute it one hour after you import your KPIs (above).

Do not change the name of the connection. Leave the Default 'IS_Monthly KPI Summary'

Once you click connect it will export the data from your KPI tracking template to the KPI Dashboard

Input the KPI sheets and metrics to track

In the KPI Tracking Template click on the tab 'Inputs'. It includes fields for sheet names and afield for the start date. In the fields for the Sheet Name(s) you should input the name of the sheet you imported (e.g., Sales Funnel). k In the field for start date you should input the date that you want to begin tracking (e.g., the first day you have data, the first day of reporting period, etc).

In the KPI Tracking Template click on the name 'Monthly KPI Tracking'.
